Concert Highlights
Fair
City Singers and Bydgoszcz Vocal Ensemble from Poland perform
in Perth 2005
This
was a truly international occasion with songs in English,
Scots, Polish and Latin sung by the Fair City Singers and
the Bydgosczc Vocal Ensemble.

Got any better photos than these? If you were at this or any
other FCS concert and took some shots why not email them to
us at this site (webtech@faircitysingers.org.uk)?
Puttin'
on the Ritz 2004
The
Fair City Singers, the Fair City Junior Singers and the Perth
Barbershop Singers presented a lighthearted, joyful selection
of their favourite songs and welcomed two guest vocal soloists
to join them in celebrating 15 years of Fair City Singing.
 Donald
Maxwell (baritone) is no stranger to Perth audiences.
He was delighted to be asked to compere this special concert
and found time from his busy international schedule of operatic
performances to return to his hometown. Donald, who has a
repertoire of 100 operatic roles sang favourites like 'Some
Enchanted Evening' and 'The Elephant' by Flanders and Swan.
Donald is Director of the National Opera Studio and Head of
Opera Studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

 Rowan
Hellier (soprano) returned to perform in her home town
and with her former choir after three years studying singing
with Pat Hay at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Rowan's programme included 'Summertime' from Porgy and Bess
and 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'. Rowan has appeared
in several College operatic productions and has performed
in oratario, most recently in the 'Nelson Mass'. She has been
invited to Buenos
Aires in 2005 as a member of the vocal quartet 'Vocal Fusion'.
Donald and Rowan performed the duet 'La ci darem la Mano'
from Don Giovanni.

Martin
Neilson produced a new selection for the Fair City Singers
plus their guest artistes, entitled 'Give My Regards to Broadway'
which gave the Fair City Singers a chance to dress in their
finery and sing with the stars!

you want the lyrics to some of the old favourites sung at
this memorable concert click here.
The
Millenium Dome 2000
The
biggest concert the Fair City Singers have ever taken part
in was the Millenium Eve Concert in London's Millenium Dome.
As part of a 300 strong massed choir they sang a beautiful
and perfectly timed rendition of John Taverner's 'A New Beginning'
culminating on the stroke of midnight.

Celebration
Concert 1999
In
September 1999 the choir held a Tenth Anniversary Celebration
concert in Perth City Hall with contributions from the Fair
City Junior Singers and the Perth Barbershop Singers as well.
Many former choir members returned to sing some of the old
favourites.

Famous former singers Alasdair Beatson (piano) and Helen Thomas
(violin) performed solo instrumental spots and the compere
was Alan Vicary, well known for his performances in West End
musicals. Alan also sang the lead part in some of the songs
from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ with the young singers. Perth
Barbershop Singers directed by Martin Neilson performed six
of their songs – click here
to see their own web page.

Gala
Concert 1995
Back
in
1995 they held their first major Gala Concert at which the
Junior Singers put on a Wild West show.

Want
to book the Fair City Singers for a concert?
First
discuss your ideas with Marion Neilson the Musical
Director (email links are at the bottom of every
page). If she approves then we can supply further
advice on how to organise such an event.

Suitable
venues used in the past have been the City Hall
and Lesser City Hall in Perth, school halls and
various local churches and church halls.

Largish
halls are best as the full choir numbers fifty
to eighty!
