Why the name "Fair City" Singers?
Sir Walter Scott wrote of the ‘Fair City’ of Perth which is how the choir got its name.

beeWhy is the choir mascot a bee?
As our audiences well know, the choir colours are yellow and black, so several years ago one of the founder members decided to create a mascot in the form of 'Beartha Bee', incorporating the old Gaelic name for Perth. See if you can spot Beartha in some of our photos – she’s in at least three of them!

cameraWhy are the photos so small?
To keep the page download times low. Most of the photos contain links which open a new window containing a full-size jpeg of the same image (typically 30 – 90 Kbytes) plus an explanatory caption giving more information.

Want to run the Fair City Singers web site?

Are you in the choir or involved as a parent etc? How about taking over the running of this site? You could update it or tear it to bits and start again! My daughter left the choir some time ago to go to university and Carolyn is no longer the choir secretary. I can keep the site going but it is much easier to keep the content fresh if you are actively involved.

The site is easy to maintain on a few Mb of your ISP's home pages server. You will need a PC or Mac and some software. I use Macromedia Dreamweaver for the pages and Paint Shop Pro for image manipulation. It helps if you have a digital camera. I will help you to get started - if you want. The choir will pay your expenses.

Note for web-techies: For the site design I utilised the concept of flexible pages which involves a clever combination of nested tables tending to expand with spacer images or invisible gifs which prevent contraction. The idea is that the layout should look pretty good in any screen resolution. In practice it looks best from 800x600 up to 1280x1024. J S Hook describes this concept at his site www.jshook.com

A web site is nothing without content. Thank you to all who have provided text and photographic content especially Marion and Martin Neilson, Ian Jackson, Andy Turnbull, Jenny Manson, Hazel Bell and the FCS committee.
