Welcome
to the home page of the Perth Barbershop Singers, a close harmony
male singing group formed by Martin Neilson in Perthshire, Scotland
in September 1996. He was inspired by meeting some of the top Barbershop
Choruses in the UK when he and his wife Marion took the Fair
City Singers to compete in the Sainsbury Choir of the Year Competitions.
Many of the original members were Fair City Dads.
From
an original 9 members singing in 4 parts from their very first rehearsal
they have expanded (in many ways). Martin has been heard to say
that the number of parts can sometimes expand too (even though it
should still just be 4).
New
members are always welcome. It is easier to join at the beginning
of the season but our doors are always open. Don't worry about tadpoles
on wires - the others don't. Practice tapes make learning the songs
a doddle. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 8.30 to 9.30 in
the Hay Room, Dewar's Rinks, Perth. For further information contact
Martin Neilson at mm@neilson77.freeserve.co.uk
or telephone 01738 629648.
This
site originally started in December 1999 and has been visited
times.
It was last updated on 30th December 2001.

Barbershop News
PBS
are busy at the moment rehearsing a number of new songs and activity
on the performing front has been low key since returning from Germany,
but that has enabled the new members to become familiar with the
old favourites and also to learn some new songs at the same pace
as the rest of the choir.
We're
all looking forward to Harmony
Junction in Pitlochry at the beginning of March 2002 and Groups
from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow as well as PBS are turning out
in large numbers to make this the largest attendance since we were
first at Fort William for Harmony Junction 4 years ago. This is
the fifth Harmony Junction and it gives a great opportunity for
the Choirs to get together and learn from some of the great Barbershop
Quartets and tutors. In years gone by Cambridge Blues, and other
former Gold Medallists have been with us to help improve our performance
skills and also to sample good Scottish Hospitality.
The
event is full of highlights and the Saturday evening includes a
mass concert to which all visitors are welcome to attend. This allows
the lads and lasses to show off their best waistcoats and dresses.
