Against all the odds everyone was ready on the night, the audience arrived just in time and a truly amazing performance began.

Soloists, choir, the Orchestra of English National Opera, the Corrs, Mick Hucknall and Jools Holland and his band combined to present an eclectic mix of pop, jazz, gospel, opera and classical music.

The other choirs involved were The Chorus of English National Opera, Cor Meibon Fflint, The Voice of Gospel, The London Gay Men's Chorus, Methodist Senior Girls' Choir, The Royal School of Church Music Millennium Youth Choir, the Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir and St Eugene's Cathedral Choir.

Midnight arrived at the culmination of a perfectly timed and very moving performance of John Taverner's "a New Beginning".
